About the Role
Reporting to the Director Internal Audit, the Internal Audit Assistant will provide independent and objective assurance on the effectiveness of the organization’s governance, risk management, and internal control processes. The Internal Audit Assistant will evaluate operations, identify risks, assess compliance with policies and regulations, and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and safeguard organizational assets. This role is based in Malawi.
Key Responsibilities
SERVICE DELIVERY MANAGEMENT
- Participate in risk assessments and contribute to the development of the annual internal audit work plan.
- Develop audit objectives, scope, risk and control matrices, audit programmes and testing strategies for assigned engagements.
- Conduct risk-based audits across underwriting, claims, reinsurance, finance, investments, procurement, HR, IT, branches and other business functions and present them to the Director, Internal Audit for review.
- Review business processes, transactions, systems and controls to assess their adequacy, effectiveness and compliance.
- Identify control gaps, process inefficiencies, financial irregularities and potential risks.
- Discuss audit findings with process owners and agree on practical corrective actions.
- Prepare clear and evidence-based audit findings and recommendations.
- Prepare audit work papers, document findings according to the audit work plan and present them to the Director, Internal Audit for review
- Support preparation of Audit Committee and Board papers relating to assigned audit work and key risk/control themes.
- Perform post–implementation tests and reviews of previous audit recommendations and report on the current implementation status.
Who We’re Looking For
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management Or a related discipline.
- Progress towards professional qualification such as CPA, CIA, ACCA, CISA or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Two (2) years’ experience in internal audit, external audit, risk, compliance or financial control.
