About the Role

Reporting to the Principal Officer-General Business, the role is responsible for effective reinsurance and risk management in alignment with the Group’s overall risk strategy, ensuring the organisation is adequately protected against large and/or frequent claims while maintaining an optimal risk profile.

The role supports underwriting flexibility and business growth by creating additional capacity, providing technical advice and oversight, supporting new business opportunities, and maintaining a quality and balanced underwriting book through effective risk selection and placement. It also contributes to revenue generation and profitability through optimisation of facultative and excess-of-loss recoveries, reinsurance commissions, profit commissions, and increased premium income enabled by enhanced underwriting. This role is based in Malawi

Key Responsibilities

Treaty set up and Management

  • Negotiate for an optimal treaty arrangement and set up in all relevant systems
  • Treaty management through weekly review of cessions, preparation of quarterly and annual reports.
  • Seek special acceptances for unique risks.
  • Excess of Loss and facultative recoveries
  • Analysis, documentation and follow up for settlement of xol and facultative claims

Accounting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual accounts
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports on reinsurance creditor and debtors
  • Facultative premium collection
  • Accounts reconciliation with various reinsurers, cedants and brokers.

 Facultative business management

  • Facultative placement for risks beyond our underwriting capacity and those excluded from the treaties.
  • Assessing facultative inward offers to ensure we underwrite profitable business and attain set budgets

Travel Insurance Management

  • Offer support and guidance to underwriters on travel insurance matters
  • Oversee trainings of underwriters and intermediaries
  • Prepare quarterly and annual accounts

Customs Bond management

  • Assess proposed bonds to ensure set requirements are met
  • Process bonds that meet the business acceptance criteria
  • Retire cancelled bonds and discharge collateral
  • Prepare monthly reports

BBB Management

  • Assess proposed business and prepare quotations.
  • Oversee trainings of SACCOs, underwriters and intermediaries
  • Prepare accounts and reports

 Who We’re Looking For

Essential Knowledge/Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, finance and any other business related discipline
  • Diploma in Insurance / CII
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience
